A small crew, on purpose

Framewright runs one team of six and takes on about twelve projects a year across Christchurch and Selwyn. That's a decision, not a limitation: it means the builder who quotes your job is the builder on your site, and quality control happens by the person whose name is on the contract.

What "Licensed Building Practitioner" actually means for you

Restricted building work in New Zealand — the structural and weathertightness work that can ruin a house if done badly — must by law be done or supervised by a Licensed Building Practitioner. Your LBP is personally accountable to the Building Practitioners Board, signs a Record of Work lodged with the council, and can be struck off for bad work. When a builder shows you an LBP number, that's the thing to check — you can look any LBP up on the public register at lbp.govt.nz. Ours is shown on every quote, and we'd worry about any builder whose isn't.

• LBP licence — carpentry class, current, verifiable on the public register.
• Public liability and contract works insurance certificates.
• Site Safe membership and a written health and safety plan for every job.
• Our standard fixed-price contract, blank, so you can read it before you're deciding under pressure.

The guarantee

Ten years on workmanship, in writing, on top of the implied warranties the Building Act already gives you (a builder who says their guarantee replaces those is telling on themselves). Plus the scheduled twelve-month return visit — settling cracks and sticking doors are normal in year one, and fixing them is part of the job, not a favour.
